Home Drug Testing for Amphetamines

Home drug testing kits have been available for a while now. Ostensibly they were for worried parents who wanted to keep an eye on their teenagers, but they have also found use as a litmus test of recreational drug users too. They are a way of checking how they would fare if their employer performed a random test on a given day. It’s an effective method of controlling use while keeping a job.

Amphetamines are a group of compounds including amphetamine, methamphetamine, and dextroamphetamine. They are collectively known as amphetamines, and are extensively used all over the world, both as medicinal drug and recreational use.

Amphetamines can be detected in a number of ways, but the urine drug test remains the most convenient method of detection. Blood tests can also reveal the intake of amphetamines but it needs to be done in less than 12 hours after the substance is taken. The drug is quickly excreted from the blood and a negative result is the usual outcome if the test is done after that time.

Most jurisdictions have therefore decided in favor of urine drug tests. They are easier to undertake, less of an intrusion and amphetamines remain present in urine for up to five days. Some users have been tested positive for drug use even after 10 days of use. Body metabolism plays an important role in drug detection, but it’s also the extent of usage.

A habitual user can get positive results after 10 days of use, but an occasional user will hardly test positive after four days. In either case, it is obviously necessary to ensure that you are free of amphetamines before appearing in an official test. You can do that by conducting a urine test right in the privacy of your home. Which is the main benefit of these tests for users.

It’s now possible to test for amphetamines, and other drugs within minutes by using specialized testing panels. These panels are a similar size to pregnancy test kits,though some are available in larger size. Their mode of operation also resembles a pregnancy tester, except that you have to dip them in your urine instead of hold them in the flow.

You use amphetamine home drug testing by dipping a test panel in your urine for up to 30 seconds. You then remove the panel and place it on a stable surface. The detection modules inside the tester will alert you to the presence, or lack of, amphetamines within five minutes. Red is generally used to alert a user about the presence of the drug, and green for an all-clear.

Some drugs can trigger false positives, and it’s important that you know about them. Diet pills can trigger false positives, especially if you are using a variety with phenylpropanolamine as an active component. Vicks inhaler can also come up with a false positive thus jeopardizing the actual results.

It is therefore necessary to discontinue use of these drugs before you go for a test, just in case. You can leave it 24 hours before conducting a test, though the recommended time is at least 48 hours. While false positives are a known issue, they often prompt more in-depth testing, which a user wouldn’t want.
